Microsoft Azure Outage Shows the Good & Bad of Cloud Services
Microsoft Azure Services were restored after an outage Tuesday that affected a wide variety of customers. After what Microsoft described as a “Cooling Issue” in their South Central US Data Center, customers began experiencing a loss of services such as Azure AD and Visual Studio Online. The outage appears to have impacted customer inside and outside of the United States.
As customers rely more and more on Microsoft’s cloud platform, this outages should remind them that despite the well laid plans – “stuff” happens. It also illustrates the broad impact that a cloud vendor outage can have even through they happen less frequently than corporate outages may have occurred in the past.
